one of the things in Life is that even the most radical or anti establishment of ventures, particularly anything involving “community” or “mutual aid” still relies on really normie skills to be accomplished if it wants to be effective for real human beings in the long run. Like a queer housing group or any kind of shelter is still a House that needs to be clean and have clean toilets. A radical off the grid farm is still a farm where the biological necessities of crops might very well require you to wake up at 5:00 AM for weeks on end in order to have a crop. A Union meeting still might need childcare from qualified individuals who can take care of a bunch of preschoolers for hours on end. An abortion fund is still a monetary operation with a flow of cash that needs to be taken care of. Any operation needs to have regularly scheduled meetings set up and attended in the long run. A lot of these things aren’t really negotiable based on vibe or ideology so much as things that need to be done here, in the real world, in order to make peoples lives better, and no amount of perfect buzzword ideology will change that.

I was always enraged at the way capitalism has devalued some of the most important labour in human history, but now I'm even more angry since I have started getting more into crafts.

So many people are alienated from the world to such an extent they don't realize how fucking important textiles and construction and art and culinary labour is, because its all ubiquitous under capitalism: it is all profit, and if it isn't profit, then it is worthless. People don't realize just how revolutionary all of the labour was, how important it is, and was, to our survival. And that enrages me.

Tbh the thing is I really do love 99% of Jonships it’s just that

95% of things made for non-JE jonships are made by Eliashaters which almost always leads to a flattening of his character (and. Generally doesn’t bode super well for the other characters either…)

And so basically the only habitable corner of the fandom is JE. JE also has it’s share of Eliashaters but most of them are kind enough to announce it immediately so I can avoid them. It also has a good share of Martinenjoyers but to a lesser extent so it’s at least bearable (and also I feel like most Martinhaters drift towards JE lmao).

In today’s episode of “extremely niche worldbuilding”, I have come to the conclusion that the logging industry in MHA is dominated by companies who employ people with plant growth and/or generic fast forward quirks in order to create old growth trees in order to be harvested (and it’s hella cutthroat). There is of course legislation about this sort of thing, and anything made with quirk grown lumber has to be declared as such; small businesses and artisan carpenters and woodworkers will often tout their products being made of non-quirk grown lumber as a selling point.

In the same vein, people with time-bending or fast forwarding quirks are often sought out by conservation and environmental groups to try to help fix harm caused to the environment by humans, like going to radiation-contaminated areas and using their quirk to make the radiation there fade faster. Depending on how globalized these kinds of efforts are, there may even be a section of the WHA that tackles this and other natural disasters.

i know book sales pitches that follow the pattern "it's X meets Y" (like it's the mcu meets game of thrones) have been shown as being a successful way to increase sales by some suspect data points but the visceral hatred this gimmick evokes in me every time does the opposite of make me click the purchase button. not only are X and Y usually things I don't want more of, but they also usually have nothing in common with the book

the problem isn't that the fallout show does new things* in the setting its that the sum total of the additions lead to a less thematically interesting story and also remove a lot of fan favourite aspects that made the setting unique

*new as in events that happened after the timeline of the games, there is nothing novel about the events
